FNS '97 - Workshop Site

The workshop Fuzzy-Neuro Systems '97 takes place at Fachbereich 16 of the Department Soest of University of Paderborn from 12 to 14 March 1997.

Soest is a district town with a pleasant typically German medieval character. You can easily recognize this when visiting the historic town center which is still nearly totally surrounded by an old town wall. Within these walls one can find many small crooked allyways with half timbered houses on either side. When approaching Soest you will see in the distance the towers of the churches built with the typical local green sandstone.

You can enjoy the special atmosphere of the town when wandering around visiting the numerous cafes, restaurants, pubs and shops along the pedestrian precincts and the adjoining narrow lanes. Additionally there is a wide variety on offer in the field of entertainment - for example classical concerts and theater in the town hall, or pop concerts and comedy in the Old Slaughterhouse (Alter Schlachthof) which is also a pub and beergarden. And do not forget to pay a visit to the brewery in Ulricherstraße.

One of the very special events of Soest is the traditional "All Saints Carnival" (Allerheiligenkirmes) which takes place in the old part of the town. Soest then lets its hair down during these days - and so do far over one million visitors. Another memorable event is the AStA Summer Festival - organized by the students' association - in the picturesque university gardens.

There you will find many young people not only because of the just described activities but also because of the wide variety of educational and further educational facilities.

One of these institutions is the Department Soest of the University of Paderborn with its three specialized departments

On average there are between 1000 and 1500 young people studying at Department Soest - and if you ask them they will confirm that they feel really at home there.
